Whenever I feel discouraged vintage photos make me feel better, something I believe I have stated before on these pages. A simpler time? Perhaps. Mainly, it's just the ability to see the past at all. The knowledge that you're gazing upon something that no longer exists. I love this shot of Blanche Sweet, date taken unknown. There she is, kneeling over a crystal ball, turban on head ready to predict the future. But what does the future hold? What does it hold for any of us? I'd like to work in film but I question whether that is a realistic desire. I will continue to strive for it nonetheless and continue to hope. Until then, the past provides comfort to an ever fleeting present and an unforeseeable future.

Makes me feel better too! I love that photo!
I love the hazy gauze on the photo, whether it's a product of age or an aesthetic decision by the photographer: makes me think that what Blanche sees in her crystal ball isn't so clear.
Anyway, I hope you're feeling better and looking to the future now as well; no sense dwelling in bitterness.
Fab picture, Greg. I second Ed's sentiments -- I hope you'll be back and ornery as ever.
filmmaking must a been a tremendous joy in those days when Ideas were fresh, still plenty of country around hollywood get ample sunshine and fresh air..the friends and Oh the PARTIES!!
Sebina, I'm glad you feel the same way. Old photos just warm my heart.
Ed and Rick, as Randy Newman says in "I'm Different," thanks fellas.
Christopher, I agree. I would have loved to have made movies in that era. And partied.
Sorry to hear that you're discouraged pal, but at least it prompts you to share wonderful photographs like this one. Better than what I do when I'm angry to make myself better, which is to take children's candy away from them. Their tears bring a smile to this weary heart.
I'm happy that you have found an easy way to alleviate your anger that does not cause harm to others.
I foresee you doing blog titled, "Fascinating Film Fashions" under the nom de plume of Jonnie Rapper, or something along those lines.
That's a great idea. I'll get to it posthaste!
